United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Khalid Ibn Alwalid was martyred just yesterday, following 29 days of continuous fierce clashes. The fighting units in the Free Syrian Army bravely stood steadfast for over a year and a half, abandoned and deserted by kinsmen, let alone by strangers. However, in the last few days, they were forced to fall back from Al Khaldiya, in the Old City of Homs, under a hail of shells and missiles launched by Hezbollah-backed regime forces.

These battalions deserve to be held in high regard for they have survived unimaginable and dire circumstances. Nevertheless, the unification of all battalions and revolutionary forces under one unifying banner is a matter of great urgency that must be addressed while private interests and claims must be put aside.

The Revolution has reached an impasse; and this call for union is not to give a favorable impression to the European community about the attitude of the Syrian opposition; but rather to confront the imposed reality and to give the Syrian people their well-deserved victory which cannot be achieved with sacrifices alone. A just cause is not sufficient to triumph; unity, organization and favoring national duty over personal interests are.
